Happy Independence Day, Nigeria.

At 56, we're an old baby
One that has grown beards but has refused to grow wise
At 56, we're a young mother
One that has birthed so many children but hasn't reaped any fruit
At independence, we're dependent
We import even things we've got in abundance
At 56, we're very sick
We fight for air, rather than progress
At 56, we're unitedly divided
Religion, ethnicity and tribalism are the only things we see as make sense
At 56, we're far but not near
Far from the dependence time but not near the development period.
At 56, we're not there
But we're Nigerians and we won't give up
We might be crawling but we're hopeful we will run
Things might be hard but we believe they'd get better
We are Nigerians and this is Nigeria
We are good people and our nation is a great one!

We never 'experred' things to be like this but we'd push on
We don't care if "all of us die on the line", as long as we make it
We've got black in our blood and that's enough to push us
And to our "Ogas at the top", please, fear Him
All the bloods we're 'sharing', let's remember He exists
We're Nigerians and we're great
Let's work together and make Nigeria great again...

Happy Independence day.
